Injectables questions

Request an injectables consultation in Scottsdale

Tell a local provider what you would like to ask about wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers. Nothing is booked by sending the form.

What injectables cover

Injectables at a med spa usually fall into two groups. Wrinkle relaxers are a purified protein injected in small amounts into specific facial muscles. Dermal fillers are gels, many based on hyaluronic acid, placed under the skin in chosen areas.

Both are given by licensed providers where state law allows. Who may inject is set by state rules, so in Arizona the provider might be a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or registered nurse, depending on those rules and any supervision they require.

A consultation comes first. The provider asks about your health and what you want to discuss, and decides what is suitable.

Things to tell an injector up front

Some details change what an injector will suggest, so mention them early:

  • any injectables you have had before, with dates if you know them
  • any reaction you had, even a mild one
  • dental work or vaccines coming up soon
  • recent illness or a skin infection near the area
  • a big event in the next few weeks
  • pregnancy, plans to become pregnant, or breastfeeding

A licensed provider uses this to decide what is suitable and when. Injectables are given by licensed providers where state law allows, under Arizona rules on who may inject.

Questions to have ready

A consultation is the time to ask, so prepare your questions in advance. A few to start with:

  • Who will do the injections, and what license do they hold?
  • Which product type are you suggesting, and why?
  • What side effects are possible, and how would you handle a complication?
  • What aftercare should I follow?
  • Is there a follow-up visit?
  • How is cost worked out?

Cost is set by each provider, so ask at the consultation. The questions to ask page has more ideas.

Questions about injectables

Can I have injectables while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Most providers do not give wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If either applies, or you are planning a pregnancy, tell the provider at the start of the consultation. They will decide what is suitable, which may mean waiting.

What side effects are possible?

Bruising, swelling and tenderness where the injection was given are commonly discussed, and less common complications exist too. Ask the provider to explain the side effects for the specific product, how they would handle a complication, and who to contact afterward. For anything that worries you, see a doctor.

How do I know which product a provider is using?

Ask. A provider can tell you the product type, whether it is a wrinkle relaxer or a dermal filler, and why they suggest it. You can also ask for the product name and amount to be noted in your records, which helps if you see a different provider later.

One form, one local provider, and your questions answered before any decision.
